I was born in Memphis, TN and moved to Northern Virginia in 1990 to take a job with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, then in Crystal City, now moved to the Carlyle Campus off Duke Street in Alexandria. A frequent world traveler at the PTO convinced me of the joys of the Old World, even if one must go alone, so around 1993 I took the plunge with a solo jaunt to England. I then convinced my good friend Mr. Herndon of the veracity of said joys and soon we were regular sojourners through the wonderful places of Europe. Mr. Herndon’s desire to better capture the experience on film led him to educate himself on the art and the equipment of photography (and later become a professional photographer in Memphis), and I was happy to take advantage of my friend's growing expertise.

So travel photography was the beginning. Cindy Dyer, a kind, earthy, spiritual soul who runs the neighborhood garden club planted a new seed that led to a love of gardens and the beautiful details to be captured therein. And to better capture the growing things in my front yard and gardens such as Green Springs Garden Park, I obtained a high quality macro lens which brings us to the present and my growing love of closeup flower and plant photography. My friend Jody is all about classic black and white, but I have always loved color and what better place to find wonderful flourishes of color, brilliant and subtle, than in a garden?

I have sold prints, matted and framed, to friends and the occasional stranger. I've joined the Springfield Art Guild and the Northern Virginia Photographic Society. Recently I have become a full member of Gallery West on King Street in Old Town Alexandria. Sales and shows are nice but it is the taking of pictures that remain the joy, most recently in Japan and storm chasing in South Dakota.

So now I find myself enjoying both ends of the visual scale - capturing moments that encompass broad vistas, whether natural or manmade, and capturing moments as small as the tiny reflection in a single dewdrop on a single blade of grass.

From floral ephemeral to human transitional. From one wonderful moment to the next.

My images are available in a variety of sizes and on a variety of different papers. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in obtaining a print or have any questions.

If one’s ability to explore the depths of the silver lining of a particular circumstance might be considered a measuring stick of one’s character, then by that measuring stick I hope to be judged well as to the manner in which I have turned the pain and turmoil of the past into positive directions for the future. During my worst days there has always been solace in art and the good fortune I had in having the chance to explore my creative energies played no small part in my growth as a person. As my art appeared on the cover of underground magazines, on the demos of several heavy metal bands, and in the pages of independently produced comic books, I grew more confident and hopeful that my art could actually become not just a hobby, but an occupation. Now, as I embrace the rigors of formal training at the University of Memphis, I hope to expand my creative bounds while also embracing the role of parent of a handsome young son, Dylan, and a beautiful little girl, Emily. They are my greatest joy, my greatest test, and my greatest inspiration.

I am available to do portraiture of both pets and people, along with other type of works done to your specifications in a variety of different media types. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas, work request, and questions in general.
